Sign Rep. Eric Cantor's Petition Against High Gas Prices!
A Gas Tax Holiday

Quick Quiz:
What do these three things have in common?
A four-leaf clover, a winning lottery ticket and a US Congressman who's in touch with economic reality.

Give up?

Name three things that are rarely encountered. We're not sure about the probability of the first two, but

Congressman Eric Cantor (R-VA) is organizing a protest against high gas prices.

But, unlike those economically-illiterates who normally inhabit Congress, Cantor is aiming for an achievable target: the federal taxes on a gallon of gasoline. More specifically, he wants them eliminated--at least for awhile. And he wants your help signing a petition to send to Congress.

From Congressman Eric Cantor:

It's no surprise that the outrageous gas prices are hurting American families and have become the single biggest obstacle to economic prosperity.  Oil priced at $120 a barrel and gas that costs $3.50 - $4.00 a gallon is killing our economy.  We feel it at every turn, be it at the pump or when we shop for groceries.  Americans need relief from the high price of gas and it's Congress' duty to act immediately to reduce the pain at the pump.  That is why I am recommending you sign a petition that will tell Congress to act now to reduce the cost of gasoline and enact some commonsense energy legislation.  You can sign the petition at http://www.GasPriceProtest.com/.

I invite you to join us in urging Congre ss and President Bush to pass legislation that will suspend the 18.4 cent federal gas tax and 24.4 cent diesel tax this summer--June 21st through September 20th, 2008.

Rasmussen Polling Reports found that of the Americans making less than $20,000 a year, 62% favor a gas tax holiday.  Clearly those people who have the least to give to the government in taxes need our help; a gas tax holiday is one small way the government can help.  Sign here to send a message to Congress and President Bush to suspend the federal and diesel gas tax this summer.

It is critical that we tell Congress that America needs a break from high gas prices, and this petition is one way to do it.  Please join us and sign this petition to tell Congress to Cut the Gas Tax!

Cut the Gas Tax!

Clink on the link above and sign the petition.

It will do more for lowering the price of gasoline than all the Congressional Hearing browbeating the oil companies put together.

The Chinese government probably had no idea.

Eight protesters in Tibet were shot dead by Chinese police and the idea of a protest-free visit by the Olympic flame relay through London is dead also.

The police feared violence could disrupt the event.

Campaigners vowed to redouble their protests after hearing of the deaths yesterday during one of the bloodiest clashes since pro-independence protests began last month.

They said that they would target the Chinese Ambassador to London, Fu Ying, who is scheduled to take her turn carrying the torch as it makes its way from Wembley Arena to Canary Wharf. Last night the Chinese Embassy declined to confirm whether she would take part. A number of celebrities have withdrawn from the event or made themselves unavailable in protest at China’s heavy-handed crackdown on Tibetan protesters who are demanding independence.

RidesAPaleHorse has a small suggestion for ensuring the safety of the Olympic Torch when it reaches London. He submitted the above photo as proof it could work.

It reminds one of Oliver Wendell Holmes: "Man's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions."

A gunman points a pistol at Anti-Chavez protesters in Venezuela

Venezuela got its latest look at "21st Century Socialism". They ran or were shot.
VIDEO of Protester being shot in Venezuela from Sky News.

People in Venezuela took to the streets to protest the Chavez government's steady march to turn the country into a private club for Chavez and cronies. They were shot by masked gunmen. Does anyone doubt who arranged this? Does anyone doubt that this is only the beginning of an attempt to turn back the clock on democracy in Venezuela?

A report on the carnage in Venezuela from
More on the Chavez reaction to the protesters from AP and CNN:
Photographers for The Associated Press saw at least four gunmen -- their faces covered by ski masks or T-shirts -- firing handguns at the anti-Chavez crowd. Terrified students ran through the campus as ambulances arrived.

National Guard troops gathered outside the Central University of Venezuela, the nation's largest and a center for opposition to Chavez's government. Venezuelan law bars state security forces from entering the campus, but Luis Acuna, the minister of higher education, said they could be called in if the university requests them.

The people in Venezuela have taken to the streets in protest over the Chavez government's steady chaining of the country's freedoms. Political opponents are jailed, shot or just disappear. TV stations and newspapers shut down. Companies assets seized by the government.

The people spoke out on how they feel about the anti-democratic changes Chavez is pushing. The Venezuelan people spoke out. And Chavez answered them back by quoting another despot killer, Mao Tse Tung:

"Change must come through the barrel of a gun."

Ocean State scholastic object d'amore?

There might be concern about America's performance in the classroom in mathematics and science, but on the subject of bestiality, at least one Rhode Island school is at the top of the class.

A parent objected to her daughter having to write an essay on a book that included profanity and acts of bestiality. The girl, a freshman, her mother, the local school system's response all make for a telling story. More on assignments in bestiality in the classroom from Providence Journal:
A high school reading assignment that contains profanity and references to bestiality has angered a Cumberland parent so much she has complained to the superintendent, the School Committee and the state Department of Education. She wants the essay removed from the curriculum and the teacher disciplined.

So far, that hasn’t happened. Will Clarke, the author of the offending eight-page essay, “How to Kill a Boy That No One Liked,” doesn’t see what the fuss is all about.

Clarke, who has two novels published by Simon & Schuster, The Worthy: A Ghost’s Story (2006) and Lord Vishnu’s Love Handles: A Spy Novel (Sort of) (2005), says the essay is about his own high school experience in Shreveport, La., where he was a loner who was constantly picked on until he reinvented himself.

“It’s about a pivotal point in my high school experience when I won an election and stopped being a loser in people’s eyes,” the Dallas-based author said in a telephone interview.

“If anything, the essay is redemptive. That’s what literature does. It gets people to try on another person’s skin and see what it’s like,” he said. “It’s totally appropriate for high school kids.”

Lori Drew first saw the essay when her 15-year-old daughter, Amanda, a freshman at Cumberland High, brought it home as part of a homework assignment for a reading class early this month. The assignment was to read the essay and come up with as many questions as possible.

“I was shocked with the profanity and explicit sex acts with animals,” she told the School Committee last week as she handed out copies of the essay to members of the audience and the committee.

Superintendent of Schools Donna Morelle agreed to let Amanda opt out of the assignment and left Drew with the impression that the essay itself would be pulled.

But the assignment was never eliminated. The superintendent could not be reached to explain the apparent misunderstanding.

“She lied to me,” Drew said after the meeting.

Upon reading this story, parents will shake their collective heads, ominous music will play as keyboards tap out stories about the Power of the Religious Right in America and some will argue for the free interchange of discussion in the classroom. The familiar calls of "censorship" will be heard. Many of those voices will be the same ones who shout down the protests this story will generate,

Of course, others might take a shower and grab the latest issue of "Farm Digest".

When the problem is "prostitutes sew their mouths shut", the solution is "RidesAPaleHorse ". The sympathetic sort, RAPH offered the above solution and some kind words.

Maybe these girls should take a tip from the lefties that go on "hunger strikes" here. Makes it a bit easier to eat when no one is looking.

More on the sewing abilities of the world's oldest profession from Reuters:
Prostitutes in the Bolivian city of El Alto sewed their lips together Wednesday as part of a hunger strike to demand that the mayor reopen brothels and bars ordered closed after violent protests by residents last week.

"We are fighting for the right to work and for our families' survival," Lily Cortez, leader of the El Alto Association of Nighttime Workers, told local television.

"Tomorrow we will bury ourselves alive if we are not immediately heard. The mayor will have his conscience to answer to if there are any grave consequences, such as the death of my comrades," she said, surrounded by about 10 prostitutes who had sewn their lips together with thread.
After thinking about it a bit more, RAPH offered additional, if less soothing, words.
Come to think of it........this ain't a bad idea for MOST of the left and....... some on the right.
And then he turned, climbed on his bi-partisan steed and rode off into the sunset. [Cue up the theme from "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly".]
