The Thai Taliban

Things Thailand reminds one of: The King and I, tsunamis, tourists--and battleground in the War on Terror.

If you didn't think of the last one, don't feel bad. Thailand is the "forgotten front" in the WoT. Red Planet Cartoons serves up a timely reminder of the systematic war being waged on other faiths in Thailand by the partisans of the "Religion of Peace".

"The Thai Taliban" has RPC's distinctive cartoon above, an excerpt from "Red Cross fair bombed, attacks in South increase" from the Bangkok Post, and a heapin' helpin' of informative links, with everyone weighing in on the subject from Little Green Footballs to The Jawa Report.

From the Bangkok Post:

* Militants launched a terrorist bomb attack at an annual charity event in Narathiwat province, setting off a bomb that wounded at least 12 persons, police said.

* Extremists also burnt two schools in Rueso district on Sunday night, police said, and six roadside pavilions were torched by suspected insurgents.

* A high voltage electricity transmission tower in Rangae district was blown into two pieces after a bomb was remotely detonated by a cell phone, causing a complete blackout in one village.

* In nearby Pattani province, closed circuit television captured the images of four men wearing knitted ski-masks who stormed into an automobile showroom and burned five cars in an operation that took only three minutes to complete.

Red Planet Cartoons reminds us that no matter what the other faith involved--Buddhist, Hindu, Christian--the Religion of Peace considers adherents to be living in the "House of War" and legitimate fodder for jihad.

Thailand is the latest--but surely not the last--front in, what some have labeled, World War IV.

* Mysterious Unnamed "Insurgents" Bomb Female College Students

Jack Bauer's number could have been changed to a "10".

As in 'years in prison'.

A college student repeatedly rammed his car into another man's vehicle, yelling that the man was a terrorist and that he was Jack Bauer, the crack terror-fighting fed on the Fox TV show "24".

"My name is Jack Bowers (Bauer) and I work for the FBI and the Secret Service. My wife and family was kidnapped by the president and terrorist," Edgar Sullivan shouted, according to court documents.

Sullivan was given probation today when the "terrorist" whose car he rammed failed to show for any of the court dates. He faced up to 10 years in prison for second-degree assault for his Jack Bauer impression.

The Howard County State Attorney's Office speculated that Marlon Cantoral "may have been living illegally in the country," and that may have been the reason that he provided a fake address to police at the time of the ramming.

Or, he may have been a terrorist.

Sullivan made a good bid to be Kiefer Sutherland's replacement, should the "24" star need replacing.

He was driving a Ford Escape on I-95 a year ago when he struck Cantoral's van. The van left the highway and was rammed a second time as he tried to drive over the grass median strip.

Cantoral then fled on foot into the lobby of a correctional facility. Bauer...er..Sullivan followed him into the correctional facility and shouted "he's a terrorist and he kidnapped my family".
Officers contacted Sullivan's father who said his son was not married and the family was fine, authorities said. In court Thursday, Sullivan apologized for the incident, telling Howard County Circuit Judge Richard Bernhardt that he has been attending alcohol treatment and plans to graduate in May.

Sullivan, a student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County who pleaded guilty in September to drunken driving, smiled but did not speak as he left the courthouse with his parents.

So maybe Cantoral really was a terrorist.

But Sullivan wasn't really Jack Bauer.

Another career in law enforcement is snuffed out by the hard edge of reality.

Pakistan's nukes in the hands of terrorists has India--and other countries--uneasy.

Pakistanis aren't the only ones worried about the turmoil created by the state of emergency in the country. Amid rumors that the state of emergency may have been a move against President Musharaf, others are keeping a nervous eye on Pakistan's nuclear arsenal.

India is closely watching events unfold--as well as al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations.

What could turn into an opportunity for terrorists could prove to be a nightmare for India or the United States. In short, any country worried about nuclear weapons in the hands of a small group with scores to settle.

More on this from the India Express:

Nuclear-armed Pakistan is teetering on the verge of chaos after the imposition of emergency and US officials fear that the result could be every American's nightmare -- nuclear material or know-how, or even a nuclear bomb, falling into the hands of terrorists.

"If you were to look around the world for where al-Qaeda is going to find its bomb, it's right in their backyard," Bruce Riedel, the former senior director for South Asia on the National Security Council, was quoted as saying by Newsweek.

Pakistan is caught between trying to keep order while at the same time presenting a face of democracy to the rest of the world. The United States has been putting pressure on Musharraf to increase rights, step down and restore democracy in the wake of Saturday's declaration of a state of emergency.

India and Pakistan have fought a string of wars since both received their independence from Britain in the late 1940s. Both India and Pakistan acquired nuclear weapons in the last 20 years--at least once it appeared they both might use them, before tensions cooled.

So India will continue to keep a close eye on her neighbor to the west.

At least, until things quiet down.
