Protect and Serve--and Taser
A woman who was tasered in the neck while she was seven-months pregnant was found not guilty by an Ohio jury. The incident happened in November 2007.
Valreca Redden, 33, was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of official business by police officer Michael Wilmer. The incident occurred when Redden visited the police department about giving up her one-year-old son.
Wilmer grabbed Redden, got her son away from her, then forced her to the ground and stunned her in neck when she resisted being handcuffed.
Wilmer has since been fired from the police department for reasons unrelated to the Redden affair. He said the visibly-pregnant woman refused to answer his questions about herself and her son, then disobeyed Wilmer when he told her "not to leave".
Doesn't sound like grounds for tasering a seven-month pregnant woman.
The suburban Dayton jury apparently agreed with us, deliberating less than three hours before delivering the "Not Guilty" verdict.
Tasers are the new toys for police boys--and boys have to play.

When in the Army at Ft. Carson, in Colorado Springs, CO, someone asked about traveling through Kansas. The reply was always that it took a long time to drive across.
One G.I. said:
Q: What do you remember about going through Kansas?
A: Dead dogs and dirt.
It was supposed that he meant that there was nothing to do in Kansas.
Apparently, that might have been the case of a 35-year-old Kansas woman, whom police reported was on her toilet seat for two years, actually becoming welded to the seat.
"She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body. It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself," Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple told the Associated Press, explaining it appeared her body fat had grown attached to the seat.
According to the wire service, police found the clothed woman sitting on the toilet, her sweat pants down to her mid-thigh as if she were using the john. Her legs appeared to have atrophied.
"She was sitting on the toilet and was somewhat disoriented," Whipple said. "She said that she didn't need any help, that she was OK and did not want to leave."
The story has many questions marks attached to it.
WTF?
Did no one miss her?
Did the woman make no attempt to get free?
Was she content to remain where she was?
The story continues to offer information, but the information provided only raises more questions.
The woman has not been cooperative with authorities, and after initially refusing medical services, she was convinced to be taken to a hospital in Wichita to be examined. She's now listed in fair condition
"We pried the toilet seat off with a prybar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."
The woman's boyfriend called police on Feb. 27 to report that "there was something wrong with his girlfriend," Whipple said, but never explained why it took him two years to call.
Whipple said the boyfriend had brought the woman food and water for two years and claims he asked her daily to get off the throne.
"And her reply would be, 'Maybe tomorrow,'" Whipple said. "According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom."
The next line was the most unbelievable part of the entire story to us.
Authorities are now presenting the facts of the matter to the county attorney to see if the 36-year-old boyfriend should face any criminal charges.
Huh?
Criminal charges? Are we missing something here?
A neighbor, James Ellis, told AP he had known the woman since she was a child and remarked, "It really doesn't surprise me."
Maybe there just wasn't much to do the last two years in the part of Kansas the woman lived in.
WTF?

A belated attempt at damage control by Prince Charming.A Saudi court will review the case of a teenage gang rape victim sentenced to jail and flogging after she was convicted of violating the country's strict sex segregation laws, the foreign minister said Tuesday.
The remarks by Prince Saud al-Faisal, made in the United States and carried by the official Saudi Press Agency, were the latest in response to a salvo of international condemnation of Saudi judicial authorities' handling of the case.
Wait. What did he say? But didn't he just say...?It was also a sharp turn from a statement Saturday in which the Saudi Justice Ministry condemned the 19-year-old woman as an adulteress who had allegedly confessed to cheating on her husband. She was raped by seven men and then sentenced to six months prison and 200 lashes.
This story is more proof that if it's sick stories of a medieval bent you want, the Saudis are the ones to see.
In the statement, the ministry said the flogging sentence would be carried out and condemned foreign interference. The statement likely sought to ease international outrage over the case by discrediting the woman.
This one was a hard one for the usual suspects to swallow. There's never an end to the multicultural Saudi apologists ready to leap to their defense: whether on their payroll or just for the sheer joy that lunacy brings.
What if the girl's sentence is overturned, so what?
What then?
What's the remedy for a wrongly-given 200 lashes?
How about splitting the 200 between the senior members of the Royal Family? It still won't make it right for the 19-year-old rape victim.
Better yet: treble the 200 lashes and mete them out between the above Saudis and the multiculti crowd who regularly provides their cover.
We'll call it even.
