"If you can't beat 'em, subvert 'em with subterfuge."
--RE Bierce
With fatal terrorist attacks on the decline worldwide and al Qaeda apparently in disarray, it would seem a time for optimism in the global war on terrorism. But the war has simply shifted to a different arena. Islamists, or those who believe that Islam is a political and religious system that must dominate all others, are focusing less on the military and more on the ideological.
--Cinnamon Stillwell, San Francisco Chronicle: Islam in America’s Public Schools, Education or Indoctrination?
If you're an Islamist, it's time for Plan B.
Islamists aren't dummies: even as al-Qaida is destroyed on the battlefield, those determined to rule the world using Islam as their vehicle, prove to be adaptive adepts.
Those who kill in the name of Allah are stealthily using their enemies' system of freedom against them. In Canada, it's filing charges against best-selling author, Mark Steyn with the Human Rights Tribunal. In the U.K., radical Islamists, allied with the multicultural/PC-for-lunch-bunch is slowly grinding down a thousand years of English law and tradition.
In America, a healthy Islamist grievance industry--headed by CAIR--and gaming the victimization bureaucracy are two prongs of a three-tined fork of attack. What's the third?
That would be the academic jihad: using a mushy multicultural education establishment and the means of academia to further cultural ends.
Red Planet Cartoons is all over this in "The Academic Jihad".
It turns out that Western liberal democracies can be subverted without firing a shot.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the educational realm. Islamists have taken what’s come to be known as the “soft jihad” into America’s classrooms and children in K-12 are the first casualties. Whether it is textbooks, curriculum, classroom exercises, film screenings, speakers or teacher training, public education in America is under assault…
The Chronicle's Stillwell goes on to list a representative sample:
* Last month, students at Friendswood Junior High in Houston were required to attend an “Islamic Awareness” presentation during class time allotted for physical education. The presentation involved two representatives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an organization with a record of Islamist statements and terrorism convictions. According to students, they were taught that “there is one God, his name is Allah” and that “Adam, Noah and Jesus are prophets.”
* Earlier this year at Lake Brantley High School in Seminole County, Fla., speakers from the Academy for Learning Islam gave a presentation to students about “cultural diversity” that extended to a detailed discussion of the Quran and Islam. The school neither screened the ALI speakers nor notified parents.
If the speakers in the examples above had been fundamentalist Christians, the ACLU would have set a new land-speed record for filing a lawsuit over separation of church and state.
Stillwell continues:
* As reported by the Cabinet Press, a school project last year at Amherst Middle School transformed “the quaint colonial town of Amherst, N.H., into a Saudi Arabian Bedouin tent community.” Male and female students were segregated, with the girls hosting “hijab and veil stations” and handing out the oppressive head-to-toe black garment known as the abaya to female guests. Meanwhile, the boys hosted food and Arabic dancing stations because, as explained in the article, “the traditions of Saudi Arabia at this time prevent women from participating in these public roles.”
* Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy, a charter school in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., came under recent scrutiny after Minneapolis Star-Tribune columnist Katherine Kersten brought to light concerns about public funding for its overtly religious curriculum. The school is housed in the Muslim American Society’s (the American branch of the Egyptian Islamist group the Muslim Brotherhood) Minnesota building, alongside a mosque, and the daily routine includes prayer, ritual washing, halal food preparation and an after-school “Islamic studies” program.
RPC follows up this meaty excerpt (there's more at Red Planet Cartoons) with a list of links to similar stories of indoctrination masquerading as education. A few samples:
* Little Green Footballs: Troubling Passages in Textbooks at Virginia School.
* Jawa Report: Valedictorian of Saudi-Run Virginia School Joins al Qaeda.
* World Net Daily: History Textbooks Promoting Islam
Sadly, there's more, including articles by PowerLine and Stanley Kurtz.
The educational establishment in America has a recent history of indoctrinating students in cultural ideology, and now theology, contrary to parents' wishes. Protesting parents are usually made out to be benighted primitives, standing in the way of their children's education by their enlightened betters.
The National Educational Association, the largest teachers' union, has long been a hotbed of Leftist cant. Apparently, many of their members have joined hands with Islamists, bent on changing the cultural landscape of America through educational indoctrination.
The Islamists couldn't have picked better tools for their subversive mission.
Locally-controlled school boards and parents who are aware are two roadblocks in this process, though the federalization of education continues to strip power away from both.
Individuals sounding the alarm are another.
One of those alarms was sounded by Red Planet Cartoons.

Each day millions of Americans head out to work, many of whom who wear uniforms in their profession and yet six Muslim Somali women working in a tortilla factory in Minnesota are not only refusing to wear their uniforms but have filed complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claiming "religious discrimination".
CAIR, or the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil liberties group, is demanding the company give the women back their jobs and let them wear the Muslim prescribed loose fitting skirts and scarves, which would be dangerous to the women in a workplace where there's mechanical equipment.
"For these women, wearing tight-fitting pants is like being naked," said Valerie Shirley, a spokeswoman for the Minnesota chapter of CAIR. "It's simply not an option."We wondered, how many Americans sympathize with these women's "plight"?
While most Americans may grouse about working, there are certain things that each of us know, certain things that seem to be missing from the Somali women and CAIR's mindset which set them apart.
We may grouse about having to wear a uniform for work but we know that at some point we're grateful to have that job, to be able to pay our bills, feed our children, or use it as a stepping stone to another job, a better life.
What we don't do is, once we get a job is harbor a sense of entitlement, that we are now the ones who can set the rules on what we can and cannot wear. We know that if an employer mandates we must wear a uniform, either we wear the uniform and do our job, or we find work elsewhere. What we don't do, is run to the EEOC claiming religious discrimination and then have our religious guard dogs, CAIR, come in and get heavy handed, calling our employers religious bigots, blackmailing them into getting our job back. This is not how Americans behave.

Death by 1000 Papercuts (DBKP) will ask the Washington office of the FBI tomorrow to investigate apparent threats against Israel posted on an anti-LGF Internet hate site.
DBKP is going to ask the FBI to probe what it sees is a terrorist group posing as a front organization and the threat they pose to both America and Israel.
"They're like a pack of rabid dogs," said DBKP editor Mondoreb, "If you saw a pack of wild rabid dogs filing suits and threatening people, you'd call the FBI too."
"DBKP will call the FBI PDQ on CAIR about LGF."
Mondo continued: "Just today on the CAIR website, one of the lead stories was about CAIR delivering 12,000 letters to Congress "calling for an end to Israel."
"CAIR is or was populated with convicted or unindicted terrorists," said DBKP's RidesAPaleHorse.
"We think having terrorist connections is a sign of hate."

From today's CAIR website:
CAIR said today it has collected and is delivering to Congress more than 12,000 letters calling for an end to Israel's "collective punishment" of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The DBKP threat to call the FBI came as a response to CAIR's calls to the FBI to investigate what CAIR felt were threatening comments on anti-Jihad website, Little Green Footballs.

"We were immediately going to contact the FBI when we saw the CAIR press release, but then we figured, the FBI has already investigated them and found connections to terrorists," said DBKP's Ginn.
"What's good's another call today? The FBI's probably already a ton of surveillance on CAIR already and another ton would just be overkill."
"So we'll call tomorrow."

Mondo continued that it was not only the CAIR website that prompted DBKP's action: an Internet photo that showed CAIR officials also had DBKP staff worried.
They (CAIR) "appeared foreign-looking in some pictures."
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today asked the St. Louis, Mo., office of the FBI to investigate apparent threats against a local mosque posted on an anti-Muslim Internet hate site.
Because of similar bias-related incidents and lawsuits by CAIR nationwide, DBKP is urging conservative individuals and institutions to review security procedures using advice contained in its "Conservative Community Safety Kit."
The kit should be ready for "worldwide Internet distribution later this week", commented Ginn.
"We're treating this CAIR business like a serious threat."
"This whole CAIR thing just creeps me out."

Michael Savage takes to the airwaves daily during his popular talk show "Savage Nation". Now, Savage will be taking it to the courts to stop copyright infringement against a familiar adversary.Savage has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the Council on Islamic-American Relations, and has accused the organization of being a "political vehicle of international terrorism" that seeks to do "material harm to those voices who speak against the violent agenda of CAIR's clients."
Anyone familiar with CAIR knows that the organization is familiar witht the American legal system. CAIR has famously filed suits against bloggers who disagree with their views.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in California, seeks damages equal to the ongoing donations from CAIR supporters "who expect CAIR to act in this manner in exchange for continuing financial support" as well as "actual damages according to proof."
CAIR has yet to emerge victorious in the courts, but the legal expenses incurred by bloggers many times serve to dampen criticism of the Hamas-connected front group.
Now, CAIR is on the receiving end of a suit and it will be interesting to see if their uninspiring legal won-lost record is improved.A spokesman for Savage indicated the top-rated talk show host would have no further comment, saying the text of the lawsuit itself would answer questions.
There's no love lost between either Savage or CAIR.
The focal point of the lawsuit is a series of audio clips CAIR has been using in its promotions and fundraising efforts.
"I'm not gonna put my wife in a hijab. And I'm not gonna put my daughter in a burqa. And I'm not getting' on my all-fours and braying to Mecca. And you could drop dead if you don't like it. You can shove it up your pipe. I don't wanna hear any more about Islam. I don't wanna hear one more word about Islam. Take your religion and shove it up your behind. I'm sick of you."
Savage vs. CAIR. If it was a TV special, it would acheive "must-see" status in many homes.
Savage is over-the-top and unabashed in his views, while CAIR is no less over-the-top, though somewhat more sly in expressing their views.
